All prices will be quoted based on your specific needs. The same type of job can be a significantly different amount of work depending on the type of instrument.
Basic Work
Even simple jobs benefit from quality work. This includes basic restringing and tuning up your instrument, installing a strap button, light cleaning and oiling fretboard, done timely with great care.
Setup
Whether you’ve bought a brand new guitar or have a decades-old well-worn instrument, setup can make all the difference. This is where the instrument can be tuned to the player’s needs, where I can get it playing in tune, with easy action, with the preferred strings and tuning.
Maintenance
This covers the normal wear-and-tear in the life of a well-played instrument. It’s normal for grime from our fingers to accumulate on the fretboard, dust and dirt build up on the hard-to-reach areas, and small parts wear out. Deep cleaning is a more intensive process that can restore the guitar, make it play smoother, and give it a nice glow.
Repair
Accidents happen, and sometimes things just fail given enough time and use. Some problems are clear, and others need an experienced eye to troubleshoot. Electronics in particular can be a mystery when things go wrong; fixing one loose connection is easy, but finding that spot takes knowing what to look for.
Fretwork
This is the luthier’s special skill. Frets wear down over time, leading to an uneven playing surface. A fret level and dress involves filing down the frets to an even plane, then reshaping every fret back to round, and finally polishing them to a shine. Refretting is another service offered, if the frets are too worn for leveling, or if another size or fret material is requested.
Modifications
Modding an instrument makes it more personal for the player, and opens up so many possibilities. This can include electronic work, from pickup installation to switches to piezo systems. I’ve also done fretless conversions, installed baritone necks, replaced hardware, I’m open to exploring your wildest ideas to make a special instrument.
